A sworn translation is an official translation with legal effect which can only be done by a sworn translator/interpreter authorized by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. The sworn translator certifies that the text is an accurate and complete translation of the original.
Sworn translations are delivered on paper and must be accompanied by the certificate currently stipulated by law, as well as the signature and stamp of the sworn translator/interpreter. This gives them the status of official documents with the same legal validity as the original.
Sworn translations are usually necessary when a document issued in another language must be validated for a government formality of some kind. This type of translation is considered official in Spain and requires no other type of certification.
